well until now….we were hanging in there. suddenly we both have the urge to sample sticky toffee pudding several times a week…….while listening to plaintive songs.
I like to grouse and complain, grumpily refuse to take my children to the playground, and inform my husband that the next time the Air Force moves us, it’d better be to some place warm and tropical (preferably beach side).
Oh, I also like to go for freezing cold runs, drink lots of coffee, do art with my poor playground-deprived children, and apologize to my husband for all the grousing, complaining, and demands to move.
Freezing cold runs?! Woman. I tip my hat to you for acclimatizing so quick. I’m a complete ninny in this land of people biking with one hand on snowy streets while texting with the other — I walk. I’m too proud to wear bulky shoes so slip and slide I must, at a granny’s pace.
And Ye Olde Air Force better listen up…maybe you can meet halfway? Somewhere in the Pacific, perhaps?
Winter,,a long peaceful pause after the dizzying pace of the holiday season.
I cuddle my cats, read and let my husband wait on me.with hot coffee..and yes, fruitcake.
.Here in so. Minnesota its cold outside but
the sky is blue.
I’ve got dough for chocolate kranz cake rising in the fridge right now. Our intenet was down for much of today and my students did not dare to drive in the snow so I got a “snow day off” today – not bad!
Oh oh I so hope you’ll post a picture and the recipe of the kranz cake! Yeasty breads/cakes always say “day off” to me…it’s so lovely to nix instant gratification and instead sink a lot of time into a tasty treat.
Winter makes me want to make soup in the large old kettle I’ve used for this purpose for years and years. This week I opted for a lentil-sausage concoction which burbled and bubbled, filling the house with an aroma smelling of thyme; sustenance and security, memories in a steaming bowl. It was delicious. We sopped up the dregs with cornbread and were thankful for simple pleasures and the luxury of a full and happy tummy.
So annoying..winter makes me want to do more and more DIY projects for the house, to create funny cards for the forthcoming hubby’s birthday party :) , and to host casual lunches or dinners for dearest friends…so annoying :p .. I kinda like this year’s winter with all this snow. Btw val, who is this little cutie pie of yours? Her or his name if I may know ( I am guessing “her”)? It is a really cute one :))
I just came home from a long walk under the snow, now reading your blog while having a hot chocolate, listening to my favourite Manu Chao’s album. And I am enjoying every bit of it :) I find Winter really inspiring, it’s the perfect time to dust your creative skills off and be crafty!
That sounds totally dreamy…I just got home too, dusted the snow off my shoulders, and cuddled up with a sleepy cat and my favorite crafty magazine, Flow. Perfect Sunday afternoon!

It’s no use fighting, I can tell you that. (:
I like to curl up on the couch in a fuzzy blanket with a hot cup of tea and watch mindless TV.
Sounds very familiar….I usually add some knitting/embroidery/stitching into that magical formula too.

Plaintive songwriting… Ha! Very funny.
Winter… it affords us a bleak prospect, Bunter. A very bleak prospect. –Lord Peter Whimsy.
Plaintive doesn’t have to be bleak, though — I just enjoy some good contemplative angst as much as any other postmodern kid. (:
I sleep lots.
I never slept in during all my teenage years in the tropics, and only now am having the ole hibernation instinct kick in, too — crazy, aye?
I have similar reactions to winter, except I don’t bake, I just over eat and drink…alone in my house! http://huntingforbliss.wordpress.com/2013/01/14/finding-bliss-in-the-depth-of-winter/
Love your post, Tobi….and I feel ya!
Thanks :)

It sounds crisp and lovely. Especially with a slice of fruitcake, oh my!!

I will, promise!

And it’s snowing again today… :-)
Thank you for sharing!

That sounds marvelous. Split-pea soup is on every restaurant and cafe’s seasonal menu at the moment…for good reason.

I don’t think it’s annoying at all! I have the same craving for gezelligheid.
And the cutie pie is Foxy Lady. She pays for her keep by acting as alarm clock, cuddle buddy, scarf, and mouse exterminator all in one. (:
